Allow me to introduce the newest member of our family, Miss Picky McPickersons from Pickysville. She first made her first appearance last week, and little by little has been making her presence known. Only around at meal times, Miss Picky McPickersons has turned once calm feedings into a battle of the wills. Perfectly content one minute, she'll eat a few bites and then without warning, will launch into a full blown frontal assault...on the spoon! A skilled mealtime warrior Picky, prevails much of the time leaving Mama to wave her white flag (or in this case, white bottle). Besides Gerber puffs and yogurt melts, formula seems to be one of the few things she'll still eat without a protest.
So Miss Picky McPickersons, what's going on? And, most importantly what have you done with my lil' Gillybean that never met a meal she didn't like?
These meal time shenanigans have got me thinking---Do I stand my ground and continue to offer her fruits and veggies? Should I back down and offer only what she'll eat? What if that means she's primarily only eating formula for a few days or weeks? Is this all just a phase?
Since the doctor recommended introducing table food between 8 and 9 months, is now the time to start? Since she's still toothless, what kinds of soft table foods should I start her with? How can I be sure she's still getting all the vitamins and nutrients she needs to continue growing healthy and strong?
With this new phase, I feel more uncertain than ever. As any mother would, I only want what is best for my lil' girl. Well that, and to say arrivederchi to Miss Picky McPickersons and welcome back my Gillian Grace Goodeater!
What's a Mama to do?

Aww...will she eat applesauce? Babies usually love that! :)
Those pics are cracking me up! I can definitely sympathize! My E goes through picky phases from time to time. It usually gets me worried too because I want her to have a well balanced diet. One thing that she always liked was mashed potatoes! I would mix her veggies (carrots & peas mostly) with mashed potatoes and she loved it that way.
Perhaps you could try that?
Good luck & don't worry! She'll probably decide she likes everything again in a week or so!
I bet it's just a phase. Bobby did the same thing, and it lasted about a week and a half. Hang in there!
I have no room to be giving eating advice when it comes to kids. Because my babies were horrible eaters. It would exhaust me so much that I just let them eat whatever just so they'd eat something. And yes...that is why my 4yo considers poptarts a major food group.
oh no not Mis Picky Mcpickersons!!! hehe! I love the name. So far Addison doesn't like bananas! She will get better! I think they all go through that stage! :)
On the other hand... she is DANG cute :)
So cute! I love the pictures. As far as eating, you could try making some melon balls and put those in front of her. Make sure you remove any seeds. I would even go one step further and cut them in half (or quarters). Then let her pick them up and put them into her mouth when she is ready. They won't make too much of a mess... just the juice. It's soft and she might enjoy the taste enough to actually eat it. Don't give up though. Keep trying different foods. She'll come around!
Hahah! These pictures are too cute!!! Thanks for stopping by Gerber Days, and I'm following right back!
Shannon! I feel like we are living the same life sometimes! Mr. Picky Grant and Ms. Picky McPickersons would get along great. He is 11 months old now and I am still struggling to get him to eat table food. You would think putting a french fry in front of a baby would be like heaven to him but no! he eats about 3 of them and then says NO more! He cracks me up but at times it is frustrating. Anyway, he is getting better but wanted to let you know that grits with cheese and butter and buttermilk biscuits is what he started to really like and then we went to grill cheese, pankcakes, cinnamom toast waffles, fries, etc. I want to feed him healthy food but I am trying to just get him used to different textures first- that is what the pedi told me to try to do! Anyway, I am first time mom to and I feel so alone sometimes trying to make the right decisions. Feel free to call or email if you ever just want to talk! Love ya
Jessica
