Flashback Friday and More

Flashback Friday

{Me, 1980}
Photobucket

My mom was a regular McGuyver, able to fashion a toy with just a trench coat belt and an empty box of Pampers. Move over Playskool, Mom was on a mission to bring a little fun into our living room with our very own diaper box derby! How's that for ingenuity?!

Okay, while I will score no points for originality, I should at least get an A for effort, don't you think?!

Five Question Friday

{one} How many pets do you have?

Zip, zero, zilch!

{two} If you could switch places with anyone in the world for one day, who would it be?

If I could switch places with anyone for the day it would be celebrity stylist, Rachel Zoe. Even though I couldn't squeeze my pinky finger, much less my entire body, into any of her clothes, I'd love to just camp out in her closet for hours ogling over her hundreds and hundreds of designer frocks. Styling all the A-List Hollywood celebrities would be icing on the cake (which by the way, I'm pretty certain RZ would never eat).

{three} What is your favorite money saving tip?

Never ever leave home! While it would work, I know it's not a realistic tip. Instead I'll have to say that my favorite tip to save a few bucks is to always make a list and stick to it. A list keeps me on track while I'm shopping while helping me to avoid impulse purchases that tend to send my final total soaring!

{four}
What do you want your kids to be when they grow up?

Here's a really original answer for you: I want my daughter to be just as she is now, happy!

{five}
What is your favorite quote?

Leave it to a man with the last name of Purkey (perky) to come up with my all time favorite quote!

"You've gotta dance like there's nobody watching,
Love like you'll never be hurt,
Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth."
— William W. Purkey

Shannon you are so amazing!! I love how you took an idea from when you were a baby and used it for your own daughter. That is just so cool!!! Little GG looks so adorable and I love her little popsicle dress!!! :D

I'm making horse cupcakes for a 7 year old's birthday party this weekend! I'm pretty excited! :)

Love that orange carpet, reminds me of the Brady Bunch. No wait, there's would have been green shag carpet...anyway.
The diaper box derby may not be original, but GG seems to reaaly enjoy it. Although....I have rarely to see GG with anything other than a beautiful big smile.
I'm a firm believer that if you give a kid a big box, they can have hours of fun in it. My grandparents used to do those voting booths at their home ages ago and they were given these tall, refrigerator-style boxes. My sister and I would go in the back yard and make long tunnels, forts, cars, tents, whatever and we would want to sleep in them that night. I LOVE CARDBOARD BOXES!

I love the vintage Pampers box and I love how you recreated the idea with GG.
I'm the same with making lists. If I don't make a list before I leave the house I end up buying way more than I should :-)

Cute blog, Shannon. :)

I agree 100% with the list idea. It certainly does help. The photo of you as a baby in the box is just precious as is the one of your daughter.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy to be your newest follower.

although you were an adorable child and that invention is definitely an ingenius one of a kind way to recycle, i couldn't get past that orangey brownish carpet. that must have been the shade of the decade back then, cause we had that same shade of orange/brown carpet. my parents are old fashioned, so they STILL have it, in fact! lol!

GG looks to be as happy as if she had any toy you could have purchased in the store. i wish, as an adult i could be so easily amused.

i think i may have to dig up some old photos of myself and participate this week.

Have a wonderful weekend.

I just stumbled onto your profile and too funny that my husband and I are Alabama natives living in Florida hanging Auburn and Ole Miss flags amid the Gator orange and blue in our neighborhood. Darling blog btw... will be following you :) Have a great weekend.

Love the pic, and so neat to see a pampers box from circa 1980, when I was born.

I actually have pulled nik around in a pampers box many a time (why didn't I ever think to add a pull cord, instead of dragging it by the handle which i so much more difficult, ha!)

I LOVE that quote, beautiful-love the pic.

I have heard of this woman, but do not know her. We don't have cable, ha! I agree, when I don;t want to spend I try not to leave the house. Never fails, as soon as I do, there goes over $100. I try to stick to a list to.

Have a great weekend!

Hopped my way here from 5QF and not only love your answers, but love your flashback as well. Yes! I give you an 'A' for effort! We always joke that the kidlets have a million toys & yet they still get as much or more pleasure from the box they came in. Now, there's just one more way to use the box! :> Have a fun Friday! :>

Your mom was one smart cookie! I think you should frame the two pictures together. :)

Why is it that children love to play in boxes? lol We would buy our boys some really great toys but they were always facinated with the box.
