When I ran across this picture of my dad {pictured on the left}, I just knew I had to include it in a Flashback Friday post. Knowing stories of my dad's boyhood antics, I found this picture even more adorable. My dad and uncle look like perfect little angels in their dress clothes and bow ties, but all I can think is Leave it to Beaver meets Dennis the Menace. It's always fun browsing through old photos, but it's the stories behind the pictures that provide the real entertainment!
Five Question Friday {Hosted by Mama M. at My Little Life}
1. If you could, would you go back to high school?
Although I still have fond memories of my high school years, I would not go back if given a chance. My high school days have come and gone.
The Boss said it best, "Glory days well they'll pass you by, Glory days in the wink of a young girl's eye, Glory days, Glory days..."
2. If a genie appeared and granted you two wishes, what would they be? (And, no saying "more wishes.")
This is a tough question! There are so many "things" I'd like, but since it's a genie we're talking about and not the lotto jackpot, I'm going to have to go with "things" money just can't buy. First I'd ask the genie to grant my entire family lifelong health. Since this is a tall order, I wouldn't be surprised if the genie made me cash in my second wish just to finish the task. However if he still allowed me to make a second wish, I'd wish that my family always had everything they needed. And no, I'm not talking about cars, beach houses, and new wardrobes. But rather a security and peace of mind that comes from knowing that something bigger is at play in their life.
Funny how my genie ended up sounding more like God than the little guy from the lamp in Aladdin. Maybe it's a little more prayer and faith that I really need!
3. What kind of kids' show do you secretly like?
I enjoy watching Disney's Special Agent Oso, or as Bret and I call it, Special Agent Oh-no. We get a kick out of the haphazard and clumsy secret agent bear that can't seem to do anything without the aid of those he's supposed to be helping. Ironic isn't it?! I also like the Imagination Movers. This New Orleans based group sings, dances, and solves problems in a uniquely fun way. The only downside...getting their songs stuck in your head all day and then finding yourself singing them while pushing your buggy through Target!
4. What is your beverage of choice?
Yay, an easy one! My favorite beverage is diet coke, although I do drink a lot of water.
5. What is something you would change about yourself (or are working to change in yourself)?
My biggest flaw is that I am insecure. Unfortunately, most of what I obsess over is superficial. Does that make me egocentric? No, it just makes me real. My weight is a constant issue swirling around in my head. I'm always trying desperately to keep up with the Jones', though my clothes never seem new or trendy enough. I dwell on every new line, wrinkle, gray hair, and skin imperfection that I see in the mirror. The list goes on and on...
My mom and I have spoken about this extensively. Though I am convinced that there is not an overnight remedy for this problem, I do know that it is something that I definitely need to work on changing {and fast}.
I want my daughter to be strong and confident in who she is, not a Doubting Debbie Downer with major hangups! And, I'm pretty sure she's too smart to fall for the whole "do as I say and not as I do" bit!

Love all your answers. And that old photo of your husband is just precious! Thanks for sharing. :)
I meant to say your Dad, oops, sorry! Haha.
Oh my goodness!!! That picture is sooooooooo cute!!!!! I recently saw a video of my dad when he was about 5 or 6 running around with his little brother and it was hilarious and so cool to get to see! This picture reminded me of it!
I loved reading your answers!! Especially your wishes! :)
Hey Shannon! Thanks for the link to New Friend Friday. I'm playing today. Have a great weekend!
Cute picture. I just might have to go through my parents old snap shots. Obviously our kids and grandkids will have out crazy blogs to look at and laugh at. But it is so special when we can find those keepsakes from our relatives that were not so easy to take, "post", or print.
Stopping by from Trendy Treehouse's Follow Me Friday to say HI! Already a follower! What s great photo!
Lovin' the bowties! We're Noggin (er, Nick Jr) fans here.

Haha... Love that picture! I too love looking back on old photos!
And I also wanted to tell you that you are just a fantastic writer. Unlike me, everything you say just flows so smoothly.
Times have a-changed!
As for feeling insecure, I think there are very few women who don't feel like this from time to time. If you find any cures let me know.
Coming over from 5QF and New Friend Friday! Very cute blog! And adorable pictures! I'm a new follower. I'm a Florida native as well! Still have lots of family there! Great place. I'm now a mid-westerner living in beautiful Colorado! I'm over at www.we2b.com (sharing your last name as well).
What a great blog! You left a comment the other day on my blog, and I was just wondering if you were kin to any of the Webb's in Oklahoma?? My husband's family is a distant cousin of Loretta Webb(Lynn) which is kind of cool! Great answers by the way!
I instantly though Leave It to Beaver too! I love looking through old family photos...maybe I'll have to do this some Friday :)
Love your answer to #2!
first, the picture of your dad and his bro captures the "wolves in sheep's clothing" thought well. how cute!
#1- i'd never go back to high school either. no thank you.
#2- you are so right... i definitely need more prayer and faith! thank goodness for the Lord's grace and constant faithfulness!
#3- being that i only have a 14 mo old, my favorite show these days is "the berenstein bears." i've heard that oso is a cute show!
#4 - diet coke all the way!
#5- i can totally relate! i think all us women are like this!
I quoted you this morning on my Baby Activity - Teething post! =)
Diet Coke is my fav!!! And I to dwell on myself. The scales are not my friend!! LOL
If "Shannon" could just see the Shannon I see, there would be no more insecurities! She'd see an amazing friend, mother, wife, and daughter who is so much more than the label she wears or the car she drives. So tell Debbie Downer to take a hike and celebrate how awesome you are! xoxox
Hi! I know I already commented on this, but I wanted to tell you to swing by my blog - I have an award for you!
I agree with number 5 whole heartedly. I am trying so desperately to love myself and see myself, how I want my daughter to see herself. I am shaken to the core when I think about passing down my insecurities.
How can I complain about my tummy hanging over my jeans, and expect her not to do the same?
Love the pic. I'd never go back to high school. College-yes!
