Monday Musings

We all have them---those no-good, very bad, horrible, why did I even get out of bed, days.

And, Saturday was mine.

Between ripping a hole in the knee of my favorite jeans, struggling to get anything accomplished, cleaning up after a ridiculously ginormous blowout during naptime, and the downstairs furnace going completely kaput, Saturday just wasn't my day.

And after the serviceman's estimate of an $800 replacement part or a completely new unit to the tune of a couple grand, I was just about to settle in for a good ol' fashioned pity party for one, when Bret shared news of a call that quickly gave me a change of heart. On his way out to the truck, our serviceman received a call about the stroke of his 96 year old grandmother, followed by the devastating news that she was not expected to live through the weekend.

Jeans can be stitched. Chores can be tackled another day. Blowouts will be cleaned and soon forgotten. Even a worn out furnace can be given new life with a few parts and a little attention.

I suppose that even in the most perceived of rough patches, there's a lesson to be learned. God works in mysterious ways and Saturday night He placed Repairman Carlos in my path to remind me just how blessed I am, ripped jeans and all.

Not only did Carlos leave me with a working furnace, but a fresh perspective as well.

Life is fleeting, and irreplaceable. Let go of life's little inconveniences and focus instead on the bigger picture.

'Tis the Season...to be grateful!

Hallelujah, indeed!

A great reminder to us all that the things we see as big burdens, obstacles or challenges are in fact just minor. (Although I am sorry to hear about your favorite jeans and furnace. Never good!)

Loving GG's bow!! Precious!

We are riding the same brain wave these days - I've really opened my eyes to being grateful and not sweating the small stuff. It's so easy during Christmas when there is so much to do to get stressed out by things that ulimately do no matter. My goal is to tackle 2011 with intense gratitude...so of course I loved this post! Happy Monday!!

I SO needed this today. You'll see from my latest blog post that I was having quite the pity party myself. But, I am truly blessed. Doesn't hurt to have a reminder every once in awhile. Thanks for being mine, today. Have a great day!

Wow, that sure DOES put things into perspective, doesn't it? I'm so funny, I mean, even sometimes I'll sit and think how warm our house is, and think, and pray, for those that don't have that luxury.

Love the photos of GG! We're going to attempt to head to the mall today, one last time, to see Santa and finish some shopping! "Attempt" is the key word here.

Hope you have better Monday, than Saturday!

we often get comfortable in our luxuries and sometimes forget how grateful we are for the things we have. i think we all do it. a simple reminder from someone else's heartache helped you realize your blessings and appreciate all that has been given to you. i am saying a prayer for that man and his family.

and besides, ripped jeans are in again aren't they?

Yes, God works in funny ways. Repairman Carlos was surely sent to give you a message. And thank you for sharing it with all of us :) I will say a little prayer for him and his family. But, looking at the little GG's sweet face should put it in perspective for you too :) I think we all need to be reminded, more often than not, of how blessed we are. Ripped jeans and all. Have a great day my friend :)

Great words of advice to pass on from my granny..."This too shall pass". She was always right.
All you have to do is look at one of the greatest blessings in your life (your family) and everything seems to be put into proper perspective doesn't it?
Now all of those crummy things are a bummer to be sure, but better days are ahead.
Count your many blessings.

I believe you summed it all up: Hallelujah indeed! Blessings to you!!

You are so right, it's easy to forget how blessed we truly are. I sometimes get in moods over petty stuff then realize that I have a wonderful husband and healthy baby and more than I could ever need. Thanks for the reminder to count our blessings.

PS- I could just eat that little GG up in her bow and ruffles!!

Thank you Shannon! I so needed this reminder, as I have myself been getting caught up in the daily annoyances. I love your last sentence about focusing on the big picture. Have a great night :)

I'm sorry Saturday was such a horrible day. You're right, we all have those days... but why do they have to happen?!

GG looks ADORABLE in that outfit!!! I wish Abby would keep bows on her head, but they are usually ripped off within 20 minutes. :(

Such a great reminder. Sorry about your bad day...but glad that you quickly recovered to see your many blessings!

This is a timely post. Thank you so much for sharing. It gets so easy to become overwhelmed during the holidays that we lose sight of the irreplacable things. Lord knows those are the things that remain after the gifts are unwrapped and the decorations come down. P.S. Looked at Cracker Barrell. Only big girl sizes. Bummer!

I completely agree! My kids are both sick right now and I had a horrible weekend with Gary out of town traveling. BUT I am so thankful they only have a sinus infection AND my husband made it home safe and sound. I have learned to be grateful for each day good or bad!
